Federation Limits

Fediverse publishing sends content to independent servers.

Important Limitation

Once a public update federates, remote servers may store, cache, quote, index, or archive it. Democracy Routes can send updates and deletes, but it cannot guarantee remote erasure.

Before Enabling

Make sure the community understands:

  • which updates can federate;
  • who reviews them;
  • what information is excluded;
  • how delete requests work;
  • that remote copies may persist.

Before production activation:

  1. Search for the community actor from Mastodon.
  2. Follow it.
  3. Publish a test update.
  4. Confirm the Note appears remotely.
  5. Edit it and confirm an Update.
  6. Unpublish it and confirm Delete behavior.
